- Value, Standard, Premium & Ultimate ranges
- Supply & fit, or bring your own tyres
- Usually fitted same day, subject to stock
- Free balancing included with every new tyre
Value, Standard, Premium & Ultimate
Every tyre we fit is graded into one of four ranges, so you can match your budget and driving style rather than just picking whatever's cheapest on the shelf.
Value
Solid, budget-friendly tyres that meet every legal standard - a sensible choice for older or lower-mileage cars.
Standard
The everyday choice for most drivers - a solid balance of grip, comfort and tyre life at a fair price.
Premium
Better wet-weather grip and a quieter ride, from the brands you'll recognise on the forecourt.
Ultimate
Top-tier performance and longevity for drivers who want the very best available for their car.
Wheel Balancing
Balancing keeps the weight of each wheel and tyre even around the axle, using small offsetting weights placed at specific points around the wheel.
If your steering wobbles above a certain speed, that's often a sign your wheels need balancing - left unchecked it can cause premature tyre and suspension wear, not just discomfort.
- Fixes steering wheel or dashboard vibration
- Prevents premature tyre & suspension wear
- Worth checking every 10,000 miles
- No separate charge when buying tyres from us
Tracking
Tracking, or wheel alignment, refers to the angle and direction your tyres are set at. Hitting a kerb or driving through a pothole at speed can knock this out without you noticing straight away.
Poorly aligned tyres affect road holding, increase fuel consumption and wear your tyres out faster - it's worth having checked annually, or any time you've hit something hard.
- Improves road holding & fuel economy
- Extends the life of your tyres
- Worth checking annually, or after a kerb/pothole
- Watch for uneven wear on the inside or outside shoulder
- Suspect a wheel sensor fault? Wheel diagnostic from £25
How To Read Your Tyre Size
Every tyre has its size moulded into the sidewall, made up of a few numbers and letters that look something like 195/55 R16 87V. Here's what each part means:
- 195 - the tyre's width in millimetres
- 55 - the aspect ratio (sidewall height as a % of width)
- R16 - radial construction, fits a 16-inch wheel
- 87 - load index (how much weight the tyre can carry)
- V - speed rating (maximum sustained speed)
What's the Legal Tyre Tread Depth?
UK law requires a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm, measured across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its entire circumference. Drive below this and you risk a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points - per tyre.
Most tyre safety experts, including TyreSafe and the RAC, recommend replacing tyres at 3mm rather than waiting for the legal minimum - braking distances in the wet increase significantly once tread drops below that point.
Signs Your Tyres Need Checking
Keep an eye out for these - any one of them is worth a free tyre check at our garage.
Steering Wobble
Vibration through the steering wheel above a certain speed often points to balancing.
Uneven Wear
Wear on the inside or outside shoulder can be a sign of incorrect tracking.
Pulling To One Side
If the car drifts without you steering it, alignment is often the cause.
After a Kerb or Pothole
Worth a check any time you've hit something hard, even if nothing feels wrong yet.
Bulges or Cracking
Sidewall damage can fail a tyre suddenly - get it checked straight away.
Tread Near the Limit
If a 20p test looks borderline, don't wait until it's actually illegal.
10,000 Miles Since Last Check
A sensible point to have balancing and tracking looked at, even with no symptoms.
Annual Check-Up
Worth having tracking checked yearly to protect tyre life and handling.
Free Balancing With Every New Tyre
If you're buying tyres from us, wheel balancing is included in the price - no separate charge. Tracking is a separate check, recommended annually or after hitting a kerb or pothole.
Don't Know Your Tyre Size?
It's moulded into the sidewall of the tyre itself (see the diagram above) - that's always the most accurate source. Give us your registration over the phone and we'll happily look it up for you, or pop in and we'll check it in person, free of charge.
